 Killed in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle during combat operations.

2LT Johnny K. Craver, of McKinney, Texas, entered the Army in October 1994 as an NBC Specialist. He was commissioned a Second Lieutenant after completing Officer Candidate School in 2005. He attended Infantry Officer Basic Course at Fort Benning, Georgia and upon completion of his training was assigned to Fort Hood, Texas.

In June 2006, 2LT Craver was deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. He was assigned as 2nd platoon leader, Company B, 1st Battalion, 22nd Infantry, 4th Infantry Division on 16 June 2006. 

2LT Craver’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Army Commendation Medal (2nd OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (3rd OLC) the Good Conduct Medal (3rd Award), National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon and the Overseas Service Ribbon. He also earned the Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Ranger Tab, Parachutist Badge, Air Assault Badge, and the Special Operations Diver Badge.

2LT Craver is survived by his wife, Natalie, daughters Casondra, Savanah Craver, Emma, and son Caelen of Harker Heights, Texas.
