JUDGE Lieutenant Colonel Sean Michael Judge, PhD, age 40, passed away on Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Dublin Methodist Hospital. Sean was born in Methuen, Massachusetts on September 28, 1971. 

His parents are Daniel and Cathy Judge of Dracut, MA and Mary and David Conant of Beverly Hills, FL. Sean has two sisters, Brehan and her husband Michael McCarthy of Andover, MA and Dannah and her husband Paul Foresta of Dracut, MA. 

He also has four step-siblings whom he thought of as siblings Becky Fitzgibbons, Kevin Conant, Ed Conant and Ronald Conant. He is also survived by his grandparents, James and Rita Judge of Lawrence, MA. From the time Sean was a little boy, he wanted to be a pilot in the Air Force. 

When he was six years old he told his mother he needed an Intellivision (the newest video game technology at that time) to improve his eye-hand coordination. It worked he got it for Christmas that year! When Sean was ready for high school, he transferred to all boy Central Catholic High School in Lawrence MA which had a reputation for a large number of graduates getting accepted at military academies.

 Sean received early acceptance from the Air Force Academy and was nominated by Senator Robert Smith from New Hampshire. He graduated very high in his Academy class and secured a slot for pilot training.

He went to pilot training in Mississippi and chose to be a C-130 pilot upon graduation. He went on to serve in the Air Force for over 19 years and flew in Operation Enduring Freedom and Bosnia as well as other deployments. He was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Air Force at the time of his death. 

Sean was a graduate of the Air Command and Staff College and the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies. In 2011, he completed his PhD in Military History from The Ohio State University. 

Sean's first assignment after pilot training was at Pope Air Force in Fayetteville, NC. He visited a friend from high school at UNC-Chapel Hill and met Carmen Smith of Charlotte, NC. They dated for a little over a year and were married June 28, 1997. They have 3 children, Ryan, age 10, Seth, age 8 and Amelia, who just turned 7 last week. 

Sean was a wonderful husband and father and was very devoted to his family. His children were the light of his life. He has served as a soccer coach and Boy Scout Leader. He lived his life with loyalty, honor and dignity. 

He was much loved by his family and friends and will be missed by all. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at the Northwest Presbyterian Church, 6400 Post Rd, Dublin, OH, 43016. Interment Arlington National Cemetery in the fall of 2012. Arrangements being completed at Jerry Spears Funeral Home, 2693 W. Broad St. Family asks that memorial contributions be made to The Fisher House, 417 Schlatter Ave., Wright Patterson Air Force Base, OH, 45433.

About Lt. Col. Sean Michael Judge 
Upon graduating from CCHS, Sean received an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy. He was named a distinguished graduate of the Academy, receiving a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering in June 1993. 
After graduating from the Academy, Sean entered pilot training in Columbus, MS, receiving his Wings of Silver in 1994, and trained as a C-130 pilot.
He obtained the status of Command Pilot after accumulating more than 3000 flight hours. Over the course of a distinguished career, he served in both the Bosnian conflict and Operation Enduring Freedom, as well as multiple international and domestic deployments.
Sean was then chosen by his superiors to attend the United States Air Command and Staff College, where he obtained a Master's Degree in Military History 2007. He was selected by his leadership to attend the United States Air University School of Advanced Air and Space Studies, where he obtained a second Master's Degree in a Master of Air Power Art and Science 2008. In 2007, he received the Dean's Research Award, and in 2008 he received the school's highest award for his work on "Who has the Puck? Strategic Initiative in Modern Conventional War." 
Lt. Col. Judge was then afforded the opportunity to attend Ohio State University to obtain his Ph.D in Military History, which he completed in July 2011. He was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for outstanding service from 2008 - 2012. It was during this period that Col. Judge's research in military strategy and tactics had direct impact on the operational and tactical performance of combat units supporting the battle space. 
Sean is survived by his wife, Carmen; and his three children, Ryan, Seth and Amelia.
