Camp Pendleton Marine dies in Iraq

CAMP PENDLETON, Calif. - The I Marine Expeditionary Force announced today the death of a Marine who was supporting Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Lance Cpl. Gregory C. Howman, 28, of Mecklenburg, N.C., died Sept. 15 from injuries received due to enemy action in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. Howman was a rifleman assigned to 2nd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, Brigade Combat Team 2, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Howman joined the Marine Corps Jan. 14, 2002. His personal awards include the Combat Action Ribbon, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon and National Defense Service Medal.
