Hello,
My name is Julie Barkey. I am the mother of Michael C . Barkey who died in Iraq on July 7th. Further investigation of the accident revealed that the tire was shot out causing the accident that killed Mike. He will be receiving the purple heart posthumously. This was reported by the U.S. Iraq command and was reported locally.
Thanks for what you do so that these wonderful young men are not forgotten.

SOLDIER'S STATUS CHANGED FROM DECEASED TO KIA
SLSA ANACONDA, BALAD, Iraq – The status of a 13th Corps Support
Command soldier who died when his vehicle overturned was changed here
Oct. 11 to killed in action.
Sgt. Michael C. Barkey’s death was initially believed to be the result
of a July 7 vehicle accident near Ramadi. An investigation into the
incident revealed that the vehicle crash and Barkey’s resulting fatal
injuries were caused by hostile action.
Barkey was serving with the Ohio National Guard’s 1484th
Transportation Company at the time of his death. He will be posthumously
awarded the Purple Heart.
