From Olivia Smith 12/01/04:

CW4 Bruce A. Smith, Co. F, 106th Aviation, Iowa Army National Guard, activated 3 February, 2003.

Chief Smith was a full- time National Guard officer, serving as unit instructor pilot in the CH47D Chinook helicopter. He was based at Balad and Al Asad, Iraq, where he flew logistical missions in support of the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment. Bruce was killed on 2 November 2003, when a shoulder fired missile hit the Chinook helicopter he was piloting west of Al Fallujah. Bruce was buried on Veterans’ Day, 2003.

Bruce was the devoted husband of Oliva for 20 years, and the proud father of two children, Savannah 15 y.o. and Nathan 12 y.o.

One of these days I will send a photo of my handsome man.
Thanks again—
Oliva Smith
