Was flying a CH-47 Chinook Helicopter when it went down on Nov. 2 in Al Fallujah, Iraq.

Brian D. Slavenas was not just on board the CH-47 that was shot down. He was flying it when an SA-7 missile took out his #2 engine. Seventeen others perished with him.

Brian was an accomplished classical pianist, a body builder (6'4") and a recently graduated mechanical engineer. I didn't go to war with him, only because I retired from the military. I did fly with him in the Illinois Army National Guard. He was a good "stick" and a true gentleman.
